Our quality control is based on good manufacturing practices and the standards recommended by the International Society of Cell Therapy and the Latin American Mesenchymal Stem Cell Society of which we are members. The laboratory enters the qualification of ISO 5 (Cleanroom), which mean they meet the necessary requirements to make injectable products. We have specialized equipment such as binder brand incubators and laminar flow hoods that guarantee the complete innocuousness of the cellular product. The cells are obtained from Wharton Jelly (Umbilical Tissue) and Placenta tissue which is extracted from previously selected donors under a rigorous medical screening that includes complete clinical history, serologic tests (HIV, Hepatisis C and B, syphilis, and Chagas), with high inclusion criteria so that they can be candidates for the donation. Once the sample has been obtained, several studies evaluated by third-party laboratories authorized by COFEPRIS are carried out, such as flow cytometry, microbiological tests (mycoplasma and endotoxins).[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”What kind of stem cells are these?”]These are adult stem cells, which are technically mesenchymal stem cells. All of our stem cells are from Placenta and Wharton Jelly that came from healthy, live births. Our lab has a fertility clinic that allows us to screen the donors from conception to birth. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) exist in our bodies already. They live on our capillaries as pericytes. As pericytes they squeeze and release the capillaries to control blood pressure. When injury or inflammation occurs near them they release from the capillaries and go to the inflammation where they guide the cellular repair. MSCs lack human leukocyte antigen (HLA) so they are basically invisible to the immune system which means no chance of rejection. MSCs are extremely safe and there are tens of thousands of studies on pubmed about them.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Are These stem cells safe?”]Dreambody Clinic Stem Cells are safe. The immune system is unable to recognize placenta or wharton jelly derived mesenchymal stem cells as foreign bodies. They lack human leukocyte protein (HLA) which is why they are not rejected. These type of stem cells have been administered thousands of times at the Dreambody Clinic and our lab has over 8 years experience with no issues. There has never been a single instance rejection (graft vs. host disease) in over 8 years. In fact, mesenchymal stem cells are approved to treat graft vs. host disease in Canada and New Zealand. Umbilical cord (Wharton Jelly) -derived mesenchymal stem cells also proliferate more efficiently than “older” cells, such as those found in the fat or bone marrow of an adult patient. This makes them more potent.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Are These stem cells Ethical?”]Dreambody Clinic Stem Cells are ethical because they are adult stem cells. The confusion here comes from the controversy surrounding embryonic stem cells. Embryonic stem cells have been found to always want to become babies which when used in treatments turn into tumors. Adult Stem Cells like the placenta based stem cells we use are totally ethical and are immune resistant, so your body won’t ever reject them. The state of California has invested 2 Billion dollars into embryonic stem cell research. After years of research and 1.8 Billlion dollars spent, they have come to the conclusion that embryonic stem cells just don’t work for treatments at this point. They have actually invested the last 200 million dollars into adult stem cell research. The the Southern Baptist Church and the Catholic Church have issued papers which actually encourage research and the use of adult stem cells in the treatment of human disease. They deemed adult stem cells as an ethically acceptable alternative to the use of the ethically challenged fetal and embryonic stem cells.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”How do Stem Cells Work?”] Stem cells are parent cells which are capable of regeneration and differentiation into a wide range of specialized cell types. Once injected, stem cells follow inflammatory signals from damaged tissues and have multiple ways of repairing these damaged areas. The mesenchymal stem cells we are using are considered to be multipotent (they can transform into different cell types but cannot form an organ) but not pluripotent (capable of giving rise to several different cell types). In the body, these cells Do NOT function by transforming into different cell types or tissues. They act via anti-inflammatory activity, immune modulating capacity, and the ability to stimulate regeneration. As we age we have fewer mesenchymal stem cells in our bodies. In fact by the time we hit bone maturity we only have 10% of the stem cells that we previously had. So we are 10 times as big and only have 10% of these stem cells left. The stem cells guide traffic and manage the immune system cells. So when we have inflammation the immune system cells are signaled to go to that area. In their perfect state these immune system cells such as T-Cells would only attack antigens and pathogens. Unfortunately since we have fewer mesenchymal stem cells to guide the T-Cells, they get confused and accidentally attack the area of inflammation. So instead of helping, the immune system compounds the problem. When we put stem cells back into our system then things run the right way and our body can heal itself naturally.
