Dream Body Clinic Stem Cells FAQ Frequently Asked Questions

Stem Cells FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Dream Body Clinic in Bucerías (Puerto Vallarta area), Mexico, offers cultured mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) treatments from umbilical cord Wharton’s jelly and placenta. Below are the questions patients ask most often before a free consultation. If you do not see your condition here, call **(888) 704-3977** or email **info@dreambodyclinic.net**.

About the cells

  • What kind of stem cells do we use?
Adult mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from Wharton’s jelly (umbilical cord tissue) and placenta, collected after healthy live births at a screened fertility-clinic source—not embryonic cells and not aborted tissue.
  • Why donor cells instead of my own fat or bone marrow?
Donor MSCs from young birth tissue can be expanded to the high cell counts used here (often 25 to 300 million). Minimally manipulated fat or marrow products in the U.S. typically yield far fewer cells. The clinic’s position is that dose matters for joints, autoimmune, and organ protocols. Perinatal tissue (Wharton Jelly & placenta) derived stem cells also have the advantage that they had limited exposure to an immune system. This means that they have not been compromised by any bad immune system responses like adult tissue can be. This is particularly relevant to treating autoimmune diseases where they offer a huge advantage.
  • Are they ethical?
These are adult perinatal MSCs, not embryonic stem cells. Embryonic cells are a different product with different risks and ethics as those are derived from aborted fetus. Dream Body Clinic does not use embryonic cells. MSCs are taken from live, healthy births so there is no harm done to any one. There is no blood matching required as pure, isolated MSCs have no blood with them. MSCs are considered immune privileged so HLA matching is not required. These things make them very safe and ethical.
  • Will my body reject them?
MSCs are considered immune priveleged. They are widely described as low in HLA expression and are used allogeneically in many research settings and clinics. Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) is like the fingerprint of your cells. If an organ or cell transplant occurs and the HLA doesn’t match then you end up with graft-versus-host disease. MSCs have actually been found help people with graft vs host disease because they can mask the HLA markers to keep the immune system at bay. This means that MSCs are safe to take from another person and offer many benefits as your body can’t tell that they are not your own.
  • Do the cells turn into new organs or stay in me forever?
MSCs used this way are are working mainly through the paracrine effect. This means they are signaling (anti-inflammatory and regenerative messages to the patient’s own cells), not by permanently becoming new tissues. They do not make you a “chimera” in the way patients often fear. MSCs are like managers on the construction site, guiding the repair process.
  • Are donors screened? COVID vaccines?
Donors are medically screened (history + serology including HIV, hepatitis B/C, syphilis, Chagas, and other lab checks. Each patient gets a 3rd party analysis of the stem cells confirming this). Dream Body Clinic does not accept donations from mothers who received COVID-19 vaccines. We ask donors if they had the vaccine and then we verify it with the federal database. We only need a new umbilical cord every few months which also helps keep safety and efficacy at a maximum.
  • Is the Dream Body Clinic lab licensed?
The clinic states its lab holds COFEPRIS authorizations to produce stem cells and operate a cryobank, follows GMP-style quality control, and uses ISO-class cleanroom conditions with flow cytometry and sterility/endotoxin/mycoplasma testing. All licenses and certifications can be viewed on this page – Our Lab

Safety and who can be treated

  • Are mesenchymal stem cells safe?
There is a large published literature on MSCs. Over 100,000 published studies on scholar.google.com and over 30,000 on pub med. Mesenchymal Stem Cell Treatment at Dream Body Clinic has over 9 years of safe operation. Typical short-term effects vary depending on treatment, but include:
    – About 1 in 100 patients: mild fever or headache after IV (often managed with acetaminophen).
    – Uncommon: temporary joint swelling after intra-articular injection.
    – Intrathecal (spinal) injections can cause significant headache.

Serious complications are uncommon, but any injection or IV carries infection and procedure risk. We have never had a patient get an infection or major complication in over 9 years. These are not FDA-approved therapies because the clinic is located in Mexico where COFEPRIS is the equivalent of the FDA and we have all relevant licenses to do these procedures.

  • Who should not get treatment?
Dream Body Clinic excludes patients with cancer in the last 5 years. We are very straight forward with potential patients in letting them know if we think we can help or not. Final clearance is medical: recent labs, imaging, medication list, and physician review.
  • What medications do I stop?
**NSAIDs** (aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, and similar) are typically stopped **about 7 days before** treatment. Tell the team every prescription and supplement. Some drugs need a short hold; do not stop anything without their written plan.
  • Can I drink Alcohol before or after Stem Cell Treatment?
Alcohol will not kill mesenchymal stem cells, but it does cause a few problems. If you do an IV treatment then it is advised that you abstain from alcohol for at least 2 weeks post treatment. This is because if you drink more than 1 alcoholic beverage per hour the you cause inflammation of the liver and stem cells are attracted to inflammation. So you would be sending the stem cells to the wrong place as we want them targeting what is inflamed naturally. So if you really do want to drink then we recommend no more than 1 alcoholic beverage per hour. For all other treatments we advise abstaining from alcohol for at least 2 weeks post treatment because alcohol slows the healing process. Again if you drink 1 alcoholic beverage per hour or less then it isn’t a big deal, but we have to caution patients on the safe side.
  • Can I smoke before or after Stem Cell Treatment?
Smoking tobacco or marijuana before or after treatment is not advised, but it won’t ruin treatment. Smoking anything will inflame the lungs and the stem cells from an IV treatment already get stuck there. About 70% get stuck in the lungs for 2 to 3 hours. A lot will dissipate into the lungs to help heal issues. If you smoke then you will cause inflammation of the lungs and more stem cells will migrate there to help heal. This could take them away from healing an issue further downstream like the liver, kidneys or intestines. Smoking also has negative effects on healing. Surgeons for example advise not to smoke post surgery as recovery takes much longer if you smoke. It is the same with stem cells so it is best to avoid smoking for as long as possible post treatment.

  • Does Blood type matter for Stem Cell Therapy?
MSCs are not matched like a blood transfusion. Blood type is not used as a compatibility filter.

How treatment works

  • What conditions do you treat?*
Protocols on the site fall into

– Orthopedic: knee, hip, shoulder, ankle, elbow, wrist, thumb/fingers, toes, plantar fasciitis, neck, mid-back, low back, sciatica
Autoimmune / inflammatory: Rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis, psoriasis, Hashimoto’s, type 2 diabetes, and others listed on the homepage
Organ / systemic: COPD (IV + nebulized), liver, kidney, heart support protocols, neuropathy
– Neuro / Brain Optimization: selected brain/nerve protocols, including intrathecal options in some cases
Aesthetic / sexual health / dental: face, hair, gums, P-shot / V-shot

A consultation decides whether you are a candidate.

  • How do MSCs work (plain language)?

They home toward inflammation and release signals that can reduce inflammatory overdrive and support the body’s own repair. They are considered medicinal signaling cells, not magic replacement parts.

  • What are Typical doses  for Stem Cells?
    – Joints: often 25–50 million MSCs (some joints include PRP)
    – Lumbar, Thoracic or Cervical Spine: 100 million around the affected levels in shots of 25 million each + 100 million IV
    – Systemic / autoimmune / anti-aging IVs: Ideally 1.4 million MSCs per pound of body weight or more which is usually and IV of 100, 200, or 300 million MSCs
    – COPD: 300 million MSC IV plus 4 nebulized sessions of 25 million MSCs
    – Intrathecal for stroke, TBI and other Brain issues: 50 million MSCs

Exact protocol is customized. Prices are listed on treatment pages.

  • How long do stem cells last?
The stem cells stay in your system for 8 months to a year doing their job and then differentiate into other cell types. Once they differentiate your immune system recognizes the foreign HLA and eliminates them with no issue to the patient. Peak results for most treatments occur around 3 to 6 months post treatment.
  • When will I notice a change from the Stem Cells?
This varies by condition. Many patients start to see improvements a few weeks post treatment while others take months to notice improvement. Peak results tend to occur 3 to 6 months post treatment.
  • Do more cells always mean better results?
They say there is a **sweet spot** (they have cited roughly **~1.4 million cells per pound** for some IVs) and diminishing returns past that. Joint space limits local volume.

Why Mexico / why not the USA?

  • Why isn’t this the same as U.S. stem cell clinics?
U.S. regulation generally restricts expansion (culturing) of MSCs for commercial treatment. Mexico’s framework, allows licensed labs to expand cells to the doses they advertise. That is a regulatory difference, that allows these treatments to be conducted in Mexico.
