Poets and artists are the geniuses who anticipate science. A great artist, Joan Manuel Serrat sang:
“One thinks that they were killed by time and absence, but their train sold a round trip ticket … those are the little things that a time of roses left us, in a corner, on paper or in a drawer …”
That hymn of beauty to the memories, something that takes us to the beautiful and sad moments of our life, to those SMALL THINGS that only when we lose them we realize that little ones are not, nor ever will be.
Alzheimer’s is a brain disease that causes memory loss and alters behavior, thinking and character. For this reason, it is called the ‘draft memories’. This disease is not a normal process of aging.
Alzheimer’s gets worse over time. Other symptoms are confusion, disorientation in familiar places, placement of misplaced objects and problems with speech and writing.
Today, it is estimated that 5.1 million people in the United States have Alzheimer’s disease and that this number will rise to 16 million by 2050. Because seventy percent of people with Alzheimer’s live in their homes. homes, the impact of this disease extends to millions of family members, friends and caregivers.

THE TEN SYMPTOMS OF ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE

- Lack of good judgment. People with Alzheimer’s can dress inappropriately; put on a coat in the middle of summer, for example, or little clothes when it’s cold. They may not make good decisions about how to handle money or objects, giving them away to strangers.
- Difficulties to perform mental tasks. It is easily confused when thinking about abstract things. You may completely forget the meaning of the numbers or how they are used.
- Placement of objects out of place. They keep things in unusual places. For example, the fish tank in the refrigerator or a clock in the sugar bowl.
- Mood or behavior changes They present sudden mood swings from happiness to anger or from passivity to aggressiveness for no apparent reason.
- Changes in personality They present drastic changes in personality. They may get confused, feel afraid and distrustful or be very dependent on a family member, whom they misidentify.
