Dreambody Clinic also provides cosmetic use of stem cells for Anti-Aging, Hair Restoration and Facial Restoration.
What are stem cells?
Stem cells are found in all multi cellular organisms. They are cells that can be divided and specialize in different types of cells, that is why they are so important, they can also renew themselves producing more. In mammals there are two major cell types: embryonic and adult.
Although both are stem cells, there are important differences between adult and embryonic:
While embryonic stem cells are obtained from the embryo itself, during early stages of development, adult stem cells are in different areas of the organism already developed.
Embryonic stem cells are totipotent, they can transform into any cell type of the organism. However, adult stem cells are pluripotent or unipotent, that is, they can only regenerate the organ or tissue in which they are found.
The collection of embryonic stem cells leads to the destruction of the embryo, which can lead to problems of a bioethical nature. On the contrary, the collection of adult stem cells does not pose any risk, nor does it pose any dilemma. Of this last type are, for example, the stem cells that are found in the blood of the umbilical cord.
Stem cells differ from the rest because:
- They can divide and renew themselves for a long period of time
- They are not specialized cells
- They have the potential to become specialized cells, like muscle cells or brain cells.
Stem Cells First Uses
The use of stem cells for Leukemia was one of the starting points of stem cell treatments. Bone marrow transplantation is based on stem cell therapy. Leukemia is a type of cancer that affects the blood, by which the bone marrow produces abnormal white blood cells that replace healthy blood cells causing difficulties in healing infections in the body. Leukemia is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in childhood.
The use of stem cells therapy is based on the replacement of diseased and dysfunctional cells by cells in optimal conditions. The use of stem cells can treat various diseases such as Parkinson’s, Diabetes, spinal cord injuries, among others. Although the use of stem cells does not ensure complete healing of the patient, a better quality of life is achieved.
The range of diseases for which there are established treatments based on stem cells is still very small. Various hematological and immune system problems can, in some cases, be effectively treated with stem cells of the hematopoietic system.
Transplants of blood stem cells have been performed for more than 50 years, and much progress has been made in the techniques of stem cell collection that are currently used clinically. The placenta and umbilical cord, like the cells of the bone marrow, is currently used as a source of blood stem cells. It is an alternative to transplants performed with bone marrow cells. In addition, in tissues and organs such as the skin or the cornea, the stem cells present in these tissues contribute to their long-term regeneration.
The Future of Stem Cells
Stem cell research is in continuous evolution and great advances are expected in this field. Dreambody Clinic will remain at the forefront of this movement The expectation is that in 8 months they will have full approval for this treatment. This use of stem cells is just starting an amazing journey.
