9 Things to Know Before Getting Stem Cell ARDS Treatment in Mexico

Lasting lung damage after acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) can leave people short of breath and limited in daily life. If you are exploring a regenerative option, here are nine things to know before you book stem cell ARDS treatment at Dream Body Clinic in Bucerías, near Puerto Vallarta.

1. The protocol combines an IV with nebulized cells

The treatment is a multi-modal protocol: a 300 million mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) IV, plus four nebulized sessions of 25 million MSCs each (100 million by nebulizer), delivered directly into the lungs. A NAD+ and high-dose vitamin C IV follows the stem cell IV. The aim is to help reduce lung inflammation and support alveolar repair. The page describes the 300 million IV as the clinic’s highest-dose MSC IV.

2. The cells are made in the clinic’s own lab

The cells are allogeneic MSCs derived from Wharton’s jelly and placenta and expanded on site in the clinic’s ISO-rated lab. The clinic says its lab has more than 8 years of experience cultivating MSCs.

3. There is one published price

The all-inclusive package is $18,000 USD. It includes spirometry, a chest CT, bloodwork, the 300 million cell IV, the four nebulized sessions, the NAD+ and high-dose vitamin C IV, and physician review.

4. The cells work by signaling

MSCs release anti-inflammatory molecules, including interleukin-10, TGF-beta and prostaglandin E2, and signal neighboring cells in a paracrine effect. The page says these effects aim to reduce inflammation and support repair of damaged lung tissue and gas exchange. The clinic states that results vary, that there is no guarantee, and that the therapy is not promoted as a cure.

5. A specialist screens you before any treatment

Your first days include a full blood panel, a pulmonary function test (spirometry) and a chest CT. The clinic’s internist reviews them to establish your baseline and clear you for treatment. The internist reserves the right to deny treatment if your body can’t safely handle it.

6. It is not right for everyone

The clinic does not treat anyone who has had cancer in the past 5 years, as a precaution. Treatment depends on imaging and lab clearance. Any IV treatment carries a small risk of infection and of releasing a clot (thrombus) from the veins, especially in people with high cholesterol, which is why bloodwork comes first. About 1 in 100 people may have a slight fever or headache for a few hours afterward. Acute, life-threatening respiratory distress needs hospital care, so ask your pulmonologist whether an outpatient protocol is suitable for you.

7. Plan for at least seven days in town

This is a longer stay than most of the clinic’s treatments, and the clinic asks you to stay in Bucerías or Nuevo Vallarta because it needs frequent clinic visits. Day 1 arrive and rest, Day 2 bloodwork, spirometry and chest CT, Day 3 internist review, Day 4 free day while the cells are prepared, Day 5 IV plus nebulized sessions, Day 6 two nebulized sessions, Day 7 fly home. Airport transport to Puerto Vallarta (PVR) is provided, and the clinic suggests an extra day of rest if possible.

8. Recovery and results are gradual

The page describes the treatment as minimally invasive with little or no downtime. The cells are described as staying in the system for about 8 to 12 months while they interact with immune cells and seek out inflammation. Results vary and are not guaranteed, so set a baseline with your own pulmonologist and track breathing tests over time.

9. Prepare before you come

  • Bring recent imaging, lung function tests and your medication list.
  • Tell the clinic about cancer history, cholesterol or clotting history, blood thinners, infection and implanted devices.
  • Book lodging in Bucerías or Nuevo Vallarta for the whole stay.
  • Keep your own pulmonologist informed and involved in follow-up.

Always check with your own doctor before changing any prescribed medication.
