9 Things to Know Before Getting Stem Cell COPD Treatment in Mexico

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a serious lung condition, and decisions about treatment should be made with your own pulmonologist. If you are exploring stem cell therapy as an added option, here are nine things to know before you book treatment at Dream Body Clinic in Bucerías, near Puerto Vallarta.

1. The protocol is an IV plus four nebulized sessions

Treatment combines a 200 million mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) IV with four nebulized sessions of 25 million MSCs each, 300 million cells in total. The clinic describes the aim as supporting reduced lung inflammation and alveolar repair. A NAD+ and high-dose vitamin C IV follows the stem cells. It is offered as an addition to your regular COPD care, not a replacement for it.

2. It is not a cure, and results vary

The clinic says there is no guarantee of results, and that a small percentage of patients may not respond. Research on MSCs in COPD is ongoing, and this is a clinic protocol, not an FDA-approved U.S. indication. Keep using your prescribed inhalers, oxygen and medications unless your own doctor tells you otherwise.

3. The cells work mainly by signaling

The page explains that MSCs are thought to work through immune and anti-inflammatory signaling, including molecules such as PGE2, rather than simply replacing lung tissue. The clinic describes these as the mechanisms it is targeting, not a promised outcome for every patient.

4. The cells are made in the clinic’s own lab

The cells are allogeneic MSCs from Wharton’s jelly (umbilical cord tissue) and placenta, expanded in the clinic’s on-site, ISO-rated lab. The clinic says its lab has more than 8 years of experience cultivating MSCs.

5. Lung testing and clearance come first

Before treatment you have bloodwork, spirometry and a chest CT, reviewed by the clinic’s internist. The internist reserves the right to decline treatment if they believe your body can’t handle it. Bring your recent pulmonary records and medication list to the consultation.

6. One published price

The all-inclusive package is $14,500 USD. It covers spirometry, the chest CT, bloodwork, the 200 million cell IV, the four nebulized sessions, the NAD+ and vitamin C drip, and physician review.

7. Plan for at least seven days in town

Day 1 arrive and rest, Day 2 bloodwork, spirometry and chest CT, Day 3 scan review and payment, Day 4 free day while the cells are prepared, Day 5 IV treatment plus the 2nd nebulized session, Day 6 two nebulized sessions (morning and afternoon), Day 7 fly home. The clinic recommends one more day of rest. Book a hotel in Bucerías or Nuevo Vallarta, since this treatment needs a lot of back and forth.

8. Know the risks and who isn’t treated

About 1 in 100 people have a slight fever or headache for a few hours afterward. Any IV carries a small risk of infection and, rarely, of releasing a clot from the veins, especially with high cholesterol. The clinic does not treat anyone who has had cancer in the past 5 years. Talk to your own doctor about whether air travel and a week away from home are safe for your lung function. Seek emergency care for severe breathing difficulty and do not wait for a clinic appointment.

9. Progress is gradual and individual

The page says the cells remain active in the body for a period of months while they interact with the immune system. Any change in breathing is likely to be gradual and varies by person. Before you travel, record your baseline with your own doctor, such as breathlessness, activity level and spirometry results, so any change can be tracked.
