9 Things to Know Before Getting Stem Cell Crohn’s Disease Treatment in Mexico

Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease, and decisions about treatment should be made with your own gastroenterologist. If you are exploring stem cell therapy as an added option, here are nine things to know before you book treatment at Dream Body Clinic in Bucerías, near Puerto Vallarta.

1. The protocol is a 300 million cell IV

Treatment is an intravenous infusion of 300 million mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), followed by a NAD+ and high-dose vitamin C IV drip. The clinic describes the aim as supporting immune modulation and reduced intestinal inflammation. It is offered as an addition to your regular Crohn’s care, not a replacement for it.

2. It is not a cure, and results vary

The clinic states that there is no guarantee of results, and that a small percentage of patients may not respond. Research on MSCs in Crohn’s disease is ongoing, and this is a clinic protocol, not an FDA-approved U.S. indication. Keep taking your prescribed Crohn’s medications unless your own gastroenterologist tells you otherwise.

3. The cells work mainly by signaling

The clinic explains that MSCs are thought to migrate toward inflamed areas of the intestine and release molecules that help calm inflammation. They are described as influencing the immune system by lowering pro-inflammatory signals, raising anti-inflammatory ones, and supporting regulatory T cells. The clinic also says MSCs support the cells that line the intestine. These are the mechanisms the clinic is targeting, not a promised outcome for every patient.

4. The cells are made in the clinic’s own lab

The cells are allogeneic MSCs from Wharton’s jelly (umbilical cord tissue) and placenta from live, healthy births. They are isolated and cultivated in the clinic’s on-site, ISO-rated, COFEPRIS-certified lab. The clinic’s Crohn’s page describes the cells as never frozen, and says its lab has more than 8 years of experience cultivating MSCs.

5. Bloodwork comes first

Treatment follows a full blood panel, reviewed by the clinic’s physicians, and the clinic says treatment is given only after laboratory clearance. Bring your recent records, including your diagnosis, current medications and any recent scope or imaging reports, to the free consultation so the doctors can review your candidacy.

6. One published price

The all-inclusive package is $11,500 USD. It covers the 300 million cell IV, the NAD+ and vitamin C drip, bloodwork and physician review.

7. Plan for at least four days in town

Day 1 arrive and rest (hotel in Bucerías or Nuevo Vallarta), Day 2 bloodwork and payment, Day 3 treatment (the IV and the NAD+ and vitamin C drip, about 2 hours), Day 4 morning check-in with the care team and transport to the airport. If you stay longer, the days don’t need to be consecutive.

8. Know the risks and who isn’t treated

About 1 in 100 people have a slight fever or headache for a few hours afterward. Any IV carries a small risk of infection and, rarely, of releasing a clot from the veins, especially with high cholesterol. The clinic does not treat anyone who has had cancer in the past 5 years. Seek emergency care for severe abdominal pain, heavy bleeding, persistent vomiting or fever, and don’t wait for a clinic appointment.

9. Progress is gradual and individual

The page says the cells stay active in the body for about 8 months to a year while they interact with immune cells and seek out inflammation. Any change in symptoms is likely to be gradual and varies by person. Before you travel, record your baseline with your own doctor, such as bowel frequency, abdominal pain, energy and weight, along with any lab markers they track, so change can be measured over time.

Results vary. This content is for education and is not medical advice. Stem cell therapy offers no guarantees and is not promoted as a cure. Always talk with your own gastroenterologist before changing any Crohn’s treatment.
