9 Things to Know Before Getting Stem Cell Hip Treatment in Mexico
Chronic hip pain can limit walking, sleep, and the activities you enjoy. If osteoarthritis, a labrum tear, or a soft-tissue injury is behind it, you may be weighing hip surgery. Dream Body Clinic in Bucerías, Mexico (near Puerto Vallarta) offers a non-surgical option: a targeted injection of 50 million mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) plus PRP into the hip joint. Here is what to know before you decide.
1. It is 50 million cells plus PRP, injected into the hip joint
The protocol delivers 50 million MSCs plus PRP (platelet-rich plasma) by intra-articular injection directly into the hip joint. The aim is to calm inflammation and support repair of cartilage, labrum, ligament, and tendon tissue. The clinic describes it as minimally invasive, with little downtime compared with hip replacement or arthroscopic surgery.
2. The cells are never frozen
The MSCs come from Wharton’s jelly (umbilical cord tissue) and placenta from healthy live births. They are cultivated in the clinic’s on-site lab, which the clinic describes as COFEPRIS licensed and ISO rated. The clinic says the cells are never frozen and are given within 24 hours of cultivation.
3. One published price, with MRI and bloodwork included
The all-inclusive package is $3,500 USD per hip. It includes the 50 million cells, PRP, the injection, an on-site open MRI, a full blood panel, a physician review with a personalized protocol, and post-treatment rehab guidance. Both hips can be treated on the same trip if needed.
4. It is used for several kinds of hip problems
The clinic uses it for adults with:
- Hip osteoarthritis (cartilage damage)
- Partial labrum tears
- Partial ligament tears
- Partial tendon tears
- Sports-related hip injuries
- Chronic hip pain after conservative care, in people who want to avoid or delay surgery
5. It is not right for everyone
The clinic treats partial tears only. Typical reasons a patient is not a candidate:
- Complete tears
- Large osteophytes (bone spurs)
- Very advanced joint destruction
- Cancer within the past 5 years
- A steroid injection within the last 3 months
If the MRI shows one of these, the treatment may not go ahead. Results vary with the severity and duration of the condition.
6. You get an MRI on site before any treatment
A new MRI on the clinic’s open scanner is required, included in the price, and used to assess your cartilage, labrum, tendons, and ligaments before treatment. If you have a recent MRI report, you can email it to the clinic for a preliminary review before you travel.
7. Plan on about five days in town
A typical schedule for each hip:
- Day 1: arrive and rest
- Day 2: MRI and bloodwork
- Day 3: MRI review and payment
- Day 4: treatment
- Day 5: fly home
Treatment is at DBC Medical Center, Carmen Serdán 22, Bucerías, Nayarit. Airport transportation is available for patients staying in the clinic’s designated zone north of Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR).
8. Recovery: weeks to return, months to peak
- First few weeks: some patients notice reduced inflammation and early changes.
- First 2 weeks: rest from strenuous exercise.
- Weeks 2 to 6: a 4-week physiotherapy protocol, provided by the clinic.
- After week 6: most patients gradually return to activities.
- Months 3 to 6: peak results are typically reported.
Results are intended to support longer-term repair, and some patients choose annual maintenance with the clinic’s separate anti-aging IV stem cell protocol.
9. Prepare before you go
- Stop NSAIDs at least 1 week before treatment and stay off them for 2 or more weeks after.
- Stop prednisone at least 1 week before.
- Avoid cortisone or corticosteroid injections within 3 months before treatment.
- The clinic does not treat patients who have had cancer in the past 5 years.
The clinic says infection risk is very low with sterile technique, and that minor temporary soreness can occur.
